QUBE on Kickstarter: What 7,361 Backers Taught Us (and Where to Get One Now)

QUBE 3-in-1 digital angle finder, level and laser distance meter on a red stand

MAGPIE Team |

On March 31, 2025 we put a small red cube on Kickstarter and asked for $5,000. The campaign ran until May 16. As of October 2026 the project page shows 7,361 backers and $506,313 pledged, just over 100 times the goal, and Kickstarter tagged the campaign a "Project We Love." Then backers started telling us what to change, and QUBE changed.

The problem we kept seeing

Our first product, the VH-80, read distance in two directions at once. Watching woodworkers, tile setters and cabinet installers at work, we saw the same kit again and again: a laser measure in one pocket, a digital angle finder in another, and a bubble level on the bench. Two chargers, one bubble level, and three things to lose on a job site.

QUBE was our attempt to put all three in one body that fits in a work pocket.

What backers asked for

Once the campaign went live, backers started telling us what they would change. Three requests stood out, and all three went into the production QUBE.

  • Tape mode. Backers wanted to watch the number change as they moved, the way a tape does. Tape mode gives a live reading instead of a single shot.
  • Indoor and outdoor screen modes. A display that looks fine in a workshop washes out on a sunny deck. QUBE now switches between two brightness profiles.
  • Memory. Contractors wanted to carry readings from room to room. QUBE stores up to 100 of them.

The QUBE that shipped

It weighs 4.4 oz (126 g). It measures up to 164 ft at ±1/16 in, reads angles to ±0.2°, and sits flat as a digital level. The screen turns to match however you are holding it. A USB-C charge takes about 50 minutes and lasts up to 12 hours, and the body is IP54 rated against dust and splashes.

One thing it is not: a line laser. Its laser measures distance; it does not project a level line. If you need a line projected across a wall, that is a job for our VADER laser levels.

Missed the campaign?

QUBE is in stock here for $69.99, with the backer-requested features built in.

Orders over $30 ship free in the US. Every QUBE has a 1-year warranty and a 30-day return window. If you change your mind, we deduct a flat $10 for return shipping; defective units ship back free.

Thank you

To the 7,361 people who backed a small Korean tool company: thank you. Every QUBE that leaves the line carries the changes you asked for. If you have one, show us how you use it at @magpietech_us.
