ok for the price. It definitely comes in handy regarding it's small size and a light-weighted grip. 2 leveling bubbles helps a lot but kinda struggled with the buttons at first. I'd say it's not 'perfect', but not a waste either.
So helpful for an accurate level line!
I do a lot of av installation in large venues and offices, and this is handy for quick measurements - not for cutting wood or installing pipes that requires more precision
I like how fast I can use this to measure a stage distance for sound and lighting or check how high the truss is from the floor
Easy to use and read, with units in both. Auto adjusts if butting up against a wall or floor
Because I am submitting permits to my county for my home's pre-existing construction, I need them to be accurate. Initially I compared my initial measurements using a Stanley tape measure to this Magpie Saber 131ft (40m) Unbreakable Precision Laser Measuring Tool. When the measurements differed, it took me a bit to realize I was comparing floor with baseboards to walls (no baseboard thickness as part of the measurement), aka more accurate room measurements. I'd like to think your average carpenter would have used the old-school Stanley tape measure correctly and added the baseboard thicknesses to the room's measurements, but now that I have this easy-to-use laser measuring tool, I'm set! The screen is very easy to read, and this tool is intuitive. On a scale of one to five, this is an ELEVEN!!
This does come defaulted to meters, but it is very easy to toggle over to feet/inches. It also has a graphic on the screen which shows if you are set to measure from the laser end of the tool or the physical end of the tool. There are lots of additional features like computing square foot, volume, hypotenuse (always useful to ensure the long box you are building can swing up into place!) and so much more!
Charging is simple and easy. It comes with a cord featuring a USB A end to plug into a power supply for power and the device itself takes the standard USB C end. I like that should I misplace its cord, there are a zillion USB-C standard cords around to power it back up. Mine also came with nearly a full charge, so it was functional right out of the box. The charging port on the bottom has a very nicely designed, secure rubberized cover which seems strongly attached to the bottom, though it also stretches up out of the way, for those rare space crunch times when maybe you have the cord coming in at a near 90-degree angle to charge.
The case feels ruggedized and sturdy in my hand. It is easy to grip with textured sides, yet small enough to tuck in a pocket or tool belt or purse. There is an optional hand lanyard which I found easy to put on and I will be using. This laser tool feels and looks well designed, and this is easy to use. It comes with a nice instruction guide in multiple languages, but even if you misplace those, it is easy enough to figure out as it only has five buttons despite all its features. The screen is also informative. There are two bubbles for horizontal and vertical leveling, so if you were in a pinch and wanted to use this measuring laser, you can also let it serve as a short level.
This is at a good price value, and it would make a wonderful gift for anyone in construction, and new renter or homeowner, or anyone crafty and handy around the home. You'll want to get two, one to keep and one to give away! I *really* like this and it has really helped me begin collecting all my home measurements for my permit process. My county needs not just room being permitted, but the whole house, as well as distances between outlets, sizes of windows and doors, and this seems able to handle all of these needed measurements easily by lining up its laser light. I hope this review helps someone else.
In case Amazon combines my review with other lasers, this is my laser's description:
Magpie Saber 131ft (40m) Unbreakable Precision Laser Measuring Tool, Laser Measurement Tool with ft/in/m Measurement Units and 2 Bubble Levels_Class 2 Laser
This extremely useful laser measuring tool seems to be well made and well thought out. Beside the two leveling bubbles (very helpful) this compact laser device can help you determine all the measuring parameters (area; room dimensions, etc.) you need for virtually any renovation (painting, remodeling, etc.) you might undertake. You can measure from the tip of the instrument or from the back - very helpful in some situations. And it has a degree of water resistance and of course is rechargeable.
The manufacturer provides the charging cable, a decent and understandable manual and a tiny carrying strap.
There is nothing in the operation of this unit that I think needs to be called out here - everything is straight forward - just be sure to go through the manual and familiarize yourself with the operations you will be undertaking.
As for accuracy - the manufacturer claims plus or minus 2 mm. My feeling is for the usual types of work around the house unless you need almost space program accuracy this unit is fine. All the measurements I have taken align with the previous known values.
For the money I don't think you can find a better unit.
